2024 South Australia & Kangaroo Island Road Trip – Day 13

Got up early again to try and beat the heat. We packed up the car and said a sad farewell to the house in Aldinga Bay, such a fabulous spot to stay for a few days. We drove back through the Adelaide Hills in the morning sun. Drove through Murray Bridge heading for Mt Gambier.

We made very few stops apart from drinks and toilet breaks, as we have been this way so many times before. We had an early brunch at Coonalpyn bakery, and drove on through. We made it to Mount Gambier by 2pm.

We did a quick circuit of the Blue Lake…so BLUE this time, wow. Amazing. We love seeing how the colour of this lake changes every time we come here.

We then drove out to Little Blue Lake, where lots of people were swimming, although it was much cooler here and the lake was green!

We then drove out to Carpenter Rocks, where the temp dropped 10 degrees! We’ve been here years before. Fabulous Lighthouse and a shipwreck, which was barely visible now (the sand comes and goes). I really like this lighthouse, Cape Banks it’s orange. Booked into our hotel and relaxed for a bit before heading out for dinner.

Due the it getting really hot we had decided to cut our trip short by one day. We planned to spend the following day visiting the sink holes and perhaps the caves. But we have done it all before many times and felt it was time to simple head home.

Here ends day 13….stay tuned for Day 14.
